Seminar 1 - The Commission - The portrait issue. Task

Task 1: Seminar 1 - The Commission - The portrait issue.

This image has a more advertising look to it, Well lit strong detail over the whole image.
the main point to this image is for the 2012 Olympic Games and is an advertising campaign 'The Road to 2012'

The colour palette is made up of only a few colours namely Green, Blue and white, but these are not highly saturated but have increased saturation when compared to the image below but is similar in that sense to the bottom image.

This image looks as though it was shot on a film camera, like someone would do if they where taking a quick 'snap' of their teacher perhaps before they leave school for good
The model is situated in the centre of the image and has a dullish colour palette which isn't the same for the top and bottom images, they are very bright and vibrant when you compare them to this particular image.

Again this image has a bright colouring and saturation to it unlike the image above.
the Man's head almost fills the whole of the picture, when you compare that to the two images above the model/subject is very small compared to the size of the image.
This would suggest a level of importance of the model perhaps, maybe the photographer chose to shoot the image in that way to make us think in that way.

By controlling how much of the person we see in effect the photographer is controlling what we think about a particular image.

The three images have similarities that they are all clearly people who have jobs or roles in society, wether it be a teacher, athlete or a tree surgeon.
By the clothes they wear you can almost easily ascertain what they are and with some stereotyping can work out what they are like to a degree.

The use of colours, the use of highly saturated and some almost desaturated or flatter colour palette we are able to work out a level of importance also.
The mans helmet is red this has connotations of danger and warning suggesting that what he does (possible Tree surgeon) is a dangerous business to be in.
the athlete is wearing the colours of his country (again, possibly Britain) and the Women who is standing against a wall in what looks to be a class room of a primary school going by what limited items there are and we are able to see, the colours she is wearing are somewhat bland, making me think that the photographer thinks upon a classroom as a bland place and so has portrayed their image in that way, some could argue that the classroom is not a bland place but a place for creativity.
