The Nucleus Arts Chatham Gallery
Floor Plan:
This is the floor plan of the exhibition space, we have used this as a guide and then I have made a model using the scale of 5cm to 1m.
There are two clearly marked doors so that we can have an entrance and an exit thus allowing us to create a 'flow' of people through the space, going from one end to the other
A small sample from their website giving you an idea of what is inside the space, and what it would have looked like.
This also is an indication an a visual reference to what past exhibits look like.
The contemporary space is very 'clean' creating a some what irony to our images of 'waste'. We would hope to attract all demographics as well as people that wouldn't be more likely to take an interest in various forms of art, but given as this is conveniently located just off the main high street it is very easily accessible by anyone walking by and would hope that this would help to encourage more visitors
The highly polished floor ads more depth to the gallery space, its almost as if it were placed on perfectly calm water.
The lighting is mostly down lighting from the celling with angled light units near to the walls allowing light to shine on works of art.
This is the finished floor plan on where we need to place each image and how we would want the audience to walk through the space.
The lighting of the exhibit should be slight low key affair, with lights directly on the images illuminating them thus making them stand out from the wall.
We have chosen to include Two stud walls to allow for more wall space and to create the 'flow' of the exhibit.
They will then be able to walk from the entrance to the exit creating a flow of traffic.
"The atmosphere we are trying to create within our space is expressed through our directional design. We want people to feel as though they’re on a journey of reflection through evidence of the rich countries’ consumption.
We want to invite
a wide audience of those interested in the philosophy of our waste methods and
how current society prevents or promotes the discarding of used wrappers/food.
Those that are viewing our exhibition should be looking for an educational
viewpoint, a position where they can empathize and understand, maybe within
themselves.
We want a classic
way of displaying work, a workspace or gallery that at least compliments or is
the binary opposite to what our work communicates. With the clean environment
of the Nucleus Gallery, it opposes how the world is dealing with waste as it
reveals true habits within our photography, and creates an irony that
encourages reflection.
Our lighting shall
follow in a similar vain, putting the idea of waste at an opposition with very
classic, clean spot-lighting which can be said to be typical and conventional - but it does fit neatly within the ethos of our photography."
- Samuel Horne
This is a scale model of the above floor plan.
I have placed the images in the model replicating where they would go if the exhibit was for real.
